BlogMistress Welcomes You

- by BlogMistress

I love that handle — “BlogMistress” — because it makes me think of black leather and…

Oops, there goes my imagination again! Which is appropriate for our brand new Novelists, Inc. Blog. We’re all multi-published popular fiction authors, and hopefully you’ll get some insights into our inventive minds by visiting us often. Authors in every genre will be blogging, as will industry guests. (It’s always good to know what’s on the minds of agents and editors!) Comment, and you’ll be eligible to win a free book. We’re giving away at least one book a week.

For a formal introduction and some facts about Novelists, Inc., I’m going to turn the rest of this first blog over to our president, Laura Resnick.

Welcome to the Novelists, Inc. Blog! This is the place to find your favorite authors, and to learn more about the craft and industry that they compete in as professionals.

Novelists, Inc. (Ninc) is an international organization of 600 professional, multi-published novelists. Our members cover all genres of popular fiction. About 20% of our members appear on national bestseller lists, and 9% of Ninc members have appeared on the grand dame of lists, the New York Times bestseller list. The writers blogging here have collectively won every major award in genre fiction, including the Edgar, the Rita, and the Hugo.

Ninc members have each published an average of 16 novels. Some individual members blogging here may have had “only” two novels published to date, while others have by now had over 100 novels published. Our members’ publishers include every major house in the New York establishment, as well as new and emerging markets, and more than 100 active literary agents currently have working relationships with Ninc members.

Ninc has far and away the greatest depth and density of professional achievement and experience of any fiction writing organization in existence. And that’s some of what our members will be sharing with you on this brand new blog which we’re launching today. We’ll also be hosting guest bloggers here, such as editors, agents, and other industry professionals.

So this blog will be rich in information, learning opportunities, networking, and good times.

We hope readers–without whom, our profession wouldn’t exist–will enjoy this blog, and that writers will benefit from it. And we encourage you to visit our website at http://www.Ninc.com for more information about Novelists, Inc. In particular, published authors may want to check out the information there about how to join the organization.

So welcome, and enjoy!

Laura Resnick
2008 Ninc President

  1. OK, Ms. BlogMistress–

Some of us in NINC do indeed write about that black leather stuff, and we’re proud of it! So if you want to turn your imagination loose, here–go for it! We in NINC are ALL about imagination! We’re all about that dangerous, forbidden love stuff–

Which isn’t always fiction, given what the publishing biz can do to you!
Some of dwell in those dangerous, forbidden love zones in our minds and our stories because it’s where we thrive and survive best, and where we can find an audience who loves to live the fantasy along with us.

Welcome to all who visit! Leave your comments and check us out here at NINC! And if that forbidden thrill stuff is what you like to read, I’ll be happy to support your habit! Submit your comment, visit me at http://www.melissamacneal.com, and choose your title! You might just get your wish!

  2. YAY! A NINC blog. I have already added this to my bookmarks, and can’t wait to soak up the knowledge. Oh, and maybe impart some too. *grin*

  3. This is great! Like Sasha, I’m eagerly awaiting the blog entries from authors and industry professionals. And Melissa has an excellent point about leaving your comments. What would *you* like to hear from the bloggers?

  4. Oh, this is going to be fun! I plan to visit daily and see what my friends and colleagues are admit–er–saying about Ninc, about the industry, about their lives. And no, as a member of Ninc, I don’t want my name put into the draw for the free book this (or any other week). It just doesn’t seem fair, especially when I know there are going to be dozens, if not hundreds of non-members coming along to comment, to ask questions, to get information vital to their own careers as writers. Great intro, Patricia, and Ms. Prez.

  5. This is great. I’ve been thinking of joining NINC for a while and have not gotten around to it yet. This is definitely a blog I’ll have to visit daily!!

  12. I’m a reader and one of the things I frequently wonder about when reading a book is where the idea for that book came from (other than your minds that is) and I enjoy hearing the stories behind the stories. I have read many answers to that question including Rebecca York’s inspiration for “Soldier Caged”.
