Novelist, Inc. Presents…
24th Annual Conference
Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort and Spa at Grande Dunes
October 24 – 27 2013
THE AUTHOR’S WORLD
NINC’s annual conference 2013 is shaping up to be a terrific counterpoint to the programs on partnership in 2012. NINC members have had a few years to emerge themselves in the faster-than-the-speed-of-light changes that technology has brought to their careers. Now it’s time to take a step back and take another look at our careers, up front and personal, for a different perspective. The Author’s World will concentrate on helping us find ways to handle the business aspects of publishing, and keep the creative spark alive so we can concentrate on what matters most: the writing.
Kicking off with First Word — Looking into the Future of Publishing
We’ll begin on Thursday (open to interested non-members) with our new kickoff tradition of examining the pathway to the future with First Word: Putting The Writer First
Our morning will begin with an advanced writing from Lisa Cron, author of Wired For Story. Lisa has spent her entire professional career examining the neurological basis behind what readers want in fiction, and how writers can satisfy them, as she will demonstrate from her book…7 Ways to Use Brain Science to Hook and Hold Readers. j
The afternoon will feature authors and author support professionals (agents, literary attorneys, marketing and social media experts) talking about the two things that matter most to writers:
- How can writers decide what will work for their individual careers. The theme of the panel will be “You Can Do Anything, but You Can’t Do Everything”
- How the right author support can help writers gain the freedom and confidence to push boundaries and aim for maximum reader satisfaction
We’ve already confirmed Jim McCarthy, dynamic agent with the Dystel and Goderich Management Agency and literary attorney Bob Stein to help create a lively and informative conversation about the newest possibilities in author empowerment.
The Main Event
Friday and Saturday (open only to NINC members), will feature topics from passive income to estate planning. Literary attorney Bob Stein has agreed to do several small group meetings to help answer some of the specific and pressing legal questions that attendees may have.
Our famous Night Owls will offer the chance for members to get together in a more informal after hours sessions to discuss topics of interest. This year, because we’ll be starting our sessions at a more respectable 9 a.m., we’ll be adding in Early Bird sessions for the early risers.
Our first ever vendor fair will allow authors to meet and greet those who provide author support services (virtual assistants, cover artists, editors, social media experts, etc.)
We’re even planning a special session for those brave spouses/children who offer support services to the author in the family.
