Built by Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. to honor his father, the hotel has been a San Diego landmark since its 1910 opening. It has hosted 13 U.S. presidents, countless celebrities and the cream of San Diego society. The building has been on the National Register of Historic Sites since 1979.

And what's history without a ghost? That's right, the GRANT, included in the 1995 book "Great American Haunts," is reported to have a resident ghost. The most frequently cited (and sighted) is Fannie Chaffee Grant. She was the first wife of the hotel's builder and was instrumental in getting it started. Then she died a year (almost to the day) before its grand opening. Her husband remarried a few years later and moved with his new bride into the hotel. No wonder Fannie haunts it!

Dining Overview:

The Zagat awarding-winning Grant Grill serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in contemporary comfort with exacting and accommodating service. The Grant Grill serves California Native Regional Cuisine, a fusion of local seasonally grown and market fresh produce, and grilled specialties complemented by regional wineries and local breweries. Settings vary from power dining in plush booths to private dining rooms.

The Grant Lounge serves cocktails from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m.

Afternoon Tea with a Twist in the lobby from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Grand Lobby Libation Lounge from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m.

Transportation:

Bus and Trolley routes. THE US GRANT Hotel is located at Broadway & 4th Avenue. (As you see on the map below, we can get anywhere from there on public transportation!) Busses run approximately every 20 minutes in the day and 30 minutes at night. Trolleys run approximately every 15 minutes in the day and 20-30 minutes at night.
