Serving the needs of multi-published authors of popular fiction

Ninc Membership Center

Founded in 1989 by five writers of popular fiction, Novelists, Inc. dedicated itself to serving the needs of multi-published writers of popular fiction. Within just a few short months, Novelists, Inc. had over three hundred members and was well on its way to becoming one of the most respected organizations in the publishing industry. Now numbering over 700 members and growing, Novelists, Inc. attracts writers from all genres of popular fiction.

Novelists, Inc. not only keeps its members connected, communicating, and well-informed, but is actively striving to better the status of fiction writers. It is a coalition of working writers dedicated to serving the professional needs of its members. We'd like to invite you to become a member today.

Our membership qualifications:

You must have published at least two novels with a qualifying market, and at least one of your novels must have been published within the last five years prior to your application for membership.

The membership committee may request proof of eligibility in some circumstances. You must also agree to have your name and a mailing address published in our membership roster (telephone number is optional). And you must agree to keep our membership roster confidential. This ensures our members' privacy and security.

What is a "qualifying market?"

For the purposes of Ninc membership applications, a publisher is a qualifying market if:

  • It pays an advance against royalties for the books it publishes.

  • It pays a minimum advance of at least $1,000 for every book it publishes.

  • It has a print run and distribution of 1,000 or more copies of every title it publishes.

  • It has published books consistently for a period of one year, and has published books by at least ten different writers.

  • It does not ask any of its authors to pay a fee for, or to have any fees deducted from their royalties or earnings, or to have any financial investment in the publishing of the books. Publishers that work with packagers can be qualifying markets so long as they meet all the standards herein.

The above criteria apply only to the two books a prospective Ninc member cites as qualifying novels in a membership application. Quite a few applicants and members also write for venues that do not meet these criteria. Deciding which publishing markets to work with is an individual decision, and Ninc does not judge or interfere in a writer's career choices.

If you're not sure whether your publisher is a qualifying venue, please apply to Ninc; the Membership Chairperson will advise you, or help you find out!

Dues are competitive with those of other writers organizations — a one-time nonrefundable application fee of $15 and annual dues of $65.00.

There's no better investment for a professional fiction writer than Novelists, Inc. So complete the online membership application today and join one of the industry's fastest growing writer's organizations.
